The newly elected Prime Minister of Japan may be an otaku. Well, a manga otaku to be exact.
PM Taro Aso is an avid reader of weekly manga magazines. He reads about 10 - 20 manga magazines a week, which is pretty impressive I may say. In 2007, as Minister of foreign affairs, he started the International Manga Awards for non-Japanese manga artist. I think that is really thoughtful of him to give a chance to manga artist from around the world to earn recognition in their art. I think that otaku of Japan are going to like this guy because they will think to themselves that he is on their side and that he would look out for the town of Akihabara. It would be pretty cool to see other world leaders liking manga and anime.
