Gundam Model Kit Quality

Posted by Otaku Dan

I have notice that quality of gunpla is improving all the time if its a Master grade or a HGUC model kits. However, if it is a non grade model kit it gets the boots. I'm going to use the different versions Gundam Exia model kits as an example in what I mean.

Below is the 1/60 scale version of this model kit. After looking at the detail of this model kit, it has the size of a Perfect grade but the quality of a Master grade. When I see a 1/60 scale model I expect for it to be perfect but this is just great.

Below is the 1/100 scale version of this model kit. It has the size of a Master grade but the quality of a HGUC model kit. For those that don't know, HGUC are High grade model kits based from the Universial Century that have improved over time to have the quality and detail of a Master grade. This model is good for its size but it have been a Master grade.

This is High grade 1/144 scale version of this model kit. This happens to be the only Exia kit to have a grade and it's ok at most.

This is the 1/144 scale version of this model kit. This happens to be the second cheapest model I have seen(the first is the G Gundam 1/144 scale, thats is really, really, really cheap model kit).

I wish that Bandai would give their non-grade model kits some love because if the customers are not happy, then they are not going to make money.

I go for Master Grades only now ... well mostly, I got tempted into buying the HG 00 Gundam >_>. But anyway MG is the way to go, otherwise you will be drowning in models of all different sizes. By the way thanks for adding me to blogroll ^_^

NG/FG 1/144 is out of the market long time ago. HG 1/144 is still popular for its variety and relatively cheap costs, so we can't complain much about it. The 1/100 on the other hand is approaching the MG in terms of details and price. It's not too easy to imagine how Exia will be like in MG when the current NG 1/100 are getting better and better these days.

I have that 1/60th scale Exia and it's actually on top of my desk here as I type.

Although it's PG size but only MG quality, it's still really really cool. The main thing though I think excuses it from being PG level is the price. This particular one cost me $60, and PGs usually start at at least double that, most of the time triple. Basically it's a nice scaled up Master Grade.
