Otaku Dan: The Life of an Anime Fan

This is my final Metrocon 2009 update until the day before the big event. It seems that this year's Metrocon is going to be awesome. There is going to be over 20 guests, over 50 panels, and 11 big events. For this year, they even extended the size of artist alley and the vendor's room, it is going to be epic.

This year, I did the smart thing and made a budget because last year I spent A LOT of money in the vendor's room. I made a list of anime, manga, and figures that really want and I also mark the booths that I would benefit the most from. This year, Best Buy and Borders Bookstore is going to be there and I'm lucky that I have their 10% off discount cards. I know for a fact that Toy Logic and Anime Pavilion have a great selection of figures.


I still have to work on the panels I'm hosting this year but beside that, I'm pretty much ready. With only 19 days left, the waiting game begins.

It has come, an episode focusing on the new club member, Azusa Nakano. We know nothing about her other than she joined the light music club in the last episode. This episode contains tears, rage, cat ears, and hell of a lot of moe.

Azusa's is a guitarist and a self proclaimed beginner, even thou can she channel the soul of Jimmy Page and Kurt Cobain when she touches a guitar. She is very small and shy, you can call her mini Mio.

On her first official day as a club member, she felt very uncomfortable. She thought it was weird that her club members only sat around eating sweets and sipping tea. She tried to motivate them by picking her guitar to practice but ended up getting yelled at by Sawako. Azusa curled into a small ball looking like she was crying but she went berserk. Azusa started yelling how it is a music club and it's not ok to eat cake, until Yui calms her down.

Since there is now 2 guitarist in the club, a lead has to be picked. Let me just say in the end, Yui asked Azusa for some help.




Azusa questioned herself why she join the club in the first place. Mio gave her a small speech on fun and friendship. In the end, Azusa stayed in the club.

This episode was pretty funny and it even had a touching moment. Azusa is really cute but to me she feels like a small and flat chested version of Mio. I did notice that she does cry for everything which after a while it may become boring to me. I also liked that they changed the animation on the opening to include Azusa in it. so, what did you think of this episode of K-On!?

First of all, I am not offering to stream anime on my blog. Since the invention of the Internet, anime because very easy to come by. You can pretty much go to Google and type into the search bar "free anime" and you will get thousands of site dedicated to streaming and downloading anime for free. However, is this convenience hurting the thing we love.


I'm not going to lie, I watch anime on the internet if it's not available in the U.S. but if I know that it's available, then I will buy it. When an anime series that I have already watched the fansubs comes out, I will buy because I like to support the industry in anyway. I spoken to old anime fans(by old, I mean old guys that have seen the growth of the anime industry)and they say that when anime got on the internet, it was both good and bad. It was good because anime can get noticed and become popular but it's bad because the sales of DVDs are dropping due to no one is buying.


I'm actually happy that many website are streaming anime legally for free, Youtube is a great example. In Youtube's animation and cartoon section, they have over 40 anime complete series(both subbed and dubbed) for free. I also watch anime and Japanese films on Crunchy Roll from time to time. I know that there are still some people out there who don't care about the industry. They only want to watch the latest episode of Naruto in a 3 part series of videos on Youtube. So, how and where do you get your anime?

For the last couple of days, I had some trouble with my bank, Bank of America. It was on Monday, some a**hole stole my bank information and spent a large undisclosed amount of my money. If it was my old self, I would had wished for him to see his entire family murdered in front of his eye, while having his skin peeled off slowly. However, I'm not going to wish him ill will, I'm going to let the universe take care of that because karma is a bitch. the one who I do have a problem is my bank.


Bank of America customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. I called and waited over an hour on the phone. When I finally get to speak to a person, she said it was not her department and hanged up on me even thou it was her department. Then the next morning, I called again and was told to have to visit one of their branches. When I got to the bank, I was told they can't do a thing and I have to call tomorrow. This is not the first time that I have gone through this hell with Bank of America, I hand some c*nt on the phone yelling at me just because she felt like it. The only time I do get some help from this bank is when I call in and get someone who is outside of the United States.

As soon as I get this problem fixed, I'm closing all of my accounts with them and joining the bank that my mother works at. I personally know everybody at that bank and they get stuff done. So, have you ever had any trouble with your bank or do you keep all of your money under a mattress?
