Otaku Dan: The Life of an Anime Fan

The summer anime season has come to an end. Some series have already ended, while others still are still running. This post is on my final thoughts of anime series that ended during the summer.


K-ON!!
I personally enjoyed this anime. It was much superior than the first season in the sense that the show focused more on the music. The one problem I had with it was the ending. It would have been nice if the show ended on episode 24. However, we get two more episodes and it took away whatever special feeling from it. Those two extra episodes should have been a bonus episodes on the DVD. I am happy that a movie is getting made.

Asobi ni Iku Yo!
I had high hopes for this anime. The first two episodes were great, but it all went downhill after episode 3. It was a harem filled fan service anime with a bit of action thrown in. That's it.

Occult academy
It was a good anime. I personally like the characters and it had great character development. The problem with this anime was the pace. It felt rushed because it was 13 episodes long. If this anime was 24 episodes long, the story would have been nicely stretched out. By the way, the ending was awesome and sad.

Strike Witches 2
It was fan services and I loved it.

High School of the Dead
This anime was doomed to fail from the start. The manga that it was originally from was on hiatus for many years, the fan services was distracting during tense scenes, and some of the characters were unlikeable. However, it was entertaining and at times it was fun. I hope the manga continues so a second season can be made.

Seitokai Yakuindomo
95% of this anime was sex jokes. Some jokes are funny while others fall flat, it all depends on your mood while watching it.

Sekirei -Pure Engagement-
It was a nice solid continuation of the first season. I can't wait for the third season to get green lit.

Okami-san and the Seven Companions
It was a unique anime with some fun episodes. The main problem of this anime is the underdeveloped cast of characters. At times I wanted to known more of the characters but we get nothing. its the end of it all, ok at best.

Mitsudomoe
That anime had some funny scenes but some of the gags were overused. If you like loli characters and don't mind the character designs, you'll like this anime.

There is one problem that many figure collectors share, its a growing collection. There are only two solutions for that problem, sell off your figures or devote some more space for them. As you can see in the picture below, my collection has grown quite a bit and my shelves have space for maybe three more figures.

The idea of selling some of my figures did come to mind but, I like them all and I would feel horrible selling them off. The only thing I could do right now, is to devote more space for them. At first, I was thinking of just letting the collection to spread out on its own. I know that I would hate that if it happened because I'm obsessive and keeping things in one place.

I decided that I'm going get rid of my shelves and get several display cases. My reasoning behind this is that display cases look nicer, the inside won't get as dusty, and if a figure falls over, it won't hit the ground. The display case that I'm currently looking at is the Ikea Detolf. I have seen that it's very popular in the figure collecting community.

I'm going to keep looking around for other kinds of display cases to see if I find something better. So, how do you display your figure collection?

It was almost an entire week that I did not make a post on my site. I apologies, but I have been very busy with college and other things. In this Weekly Pictures post, you will see why I did not have the time to make a post.

On Monday, I had a job interview at Books-A-Million right after I got out of class. The interview went very well. I also made a 5 foot long ethernet cable in my Networking class.

Tuesday or for me better known as Internet Hell day was horrible. The entire day my internet connection was crap until it died out. I had to wait until I finally had a signal so I can setup a wireless network.

I want to the doctor again on Wednesday. I got a small cut a while back and it got really infected. I'm glad that I got some antibiotics to fight the infection.

I did some studying and took a quick nap on Thursday.

I got called in for a second interview at Books-A-Million on Friday. I had to update my resume because I left out somethings on the last one.

I went in for my interview on Saturday. I did really well and I think I'm going to get the job. I made was victory french fries as a form of celebration.

Back in 2008, I preordered the Unity Yuno figure. I was forced to cancel that preorder because I need the money for college books. When I finally had the money to buy her, she was sold out. For many months I hunted for this figure on Ebay. Most of the vendors were selling for 3 times her original price or the shipping price was too high. It was until 2 weeks ago, Todd from Anime Maki posted on Twitter a link to Power Anime. I decided to check it out and when I least expect it, I found Unity Yuno at a good price and low shipping. Without skipping a beat, I ordered her. Now, I finally have my dream figure.

This figure is just too cute from head to toe.

I noticed that since when I started my site, I have made quite a lot of posts on making things. I think it's about time that I make a How To category in my site. For the "debut" post, I will teach you how to make your own cellphone stand.

What you will need are just two median sized binder clips and pliers.

Insert one of the bidder clips into the other as shown below. What you want to do next is to use pliers to bend the bottom handle upwards.

If you want to go a step further, add rubber to it if you want to avoid your phone from slipping.

I find this to be a cheaper alternative than getting a expensive stand. What I also like about this type of stand, if you want to make one for you iPad or electronic devices, just use larger binder clips.

Alicia Melchiott by Kotobukiya. This figure will be coming out in December for the price of 5,780 Yen.

Nendoroid Makise Kurisu by Good Smile Company. This figure will be coming out in December for the price of 2,429 Yen.

I kind of like most of these figure but, there are some that are a little too weird for me. Nendoroid Cattleya and Lunaluna make are a little creepy. As for possible preorders, I may get Escalayer only if they change her face. Her chin is too pointy. That Fate figure is really cute, I'm hoping for a Nanoha version to come out.
